Making Latkes in Advance for Holidays
Latkes, or potato pancakes, have been a traditional Jewish dish for many years, and are often served during the holidays. This dish is easy to make, but it can be time-consuming to make them on the day of the event. To save time, many people prefer to make latkes in advance, which can then be reheated or served cold.
Gather the Ingredients
To make latkes in advance, you will need the following ingredients: potatoes, onions, eggs, flour, salt, and pepper. You may also want to add garlic, herbs, and other spices to give the latkes more flavor.
Shred the Potatoes and Onions
Once you have gathered the ingredients, start by shredding the potatoes and onions in a food processor or grate them by hand. Place the shredded potatoes and onions into a large bowl and mix in the eggs, flour, salt, and pepper.
Form the Latkes
Next, take a handful of the potato mixture and form it into a patty. Place the patty onto a plate and repeat this process until all of the potato mixture has been used. Place the plates of latkes into the refrigerator to cool them off.
Fry the Latkes
When you are ready to serve the latkes, heat some oil in a large frying pan or skillet. Once the oil is hot, add the latkes to the pan and fry them until they are golden brown. Flip the latkes over and fry them on the other side for a few minutes until they are golden brown.
Serve and Enjoy!
Once the latkes are done, serve them hot with applesauce and sour cream. Enjoy the latkes with your family and friends. Making latkes in advance is a great way to save time and still enjoy a delicious holiday meal!
