How to Make Granulated Honey
Granulated honey, also known as honey crystals, is a type of honey that has been processed to stay in a solid state. This type of honey is convenient to use, store, and measure. Granulated honey is the perfect sweetener for your teas, cereals, and other recipes. Making granulated honey is easier than you think.
Step 1: Choose Your Honey
The honey you choose will determine the flavor and texture of your granulated honey. If you want a milder, more mellow taste, choose a lighter colored honey. Darker honeys tend to have a bolder, more intense flavor. You can also mix different types of honey together to create a unique flavor.
Step 2: Heat the Honey
Bring a pot of water to a boil and place a heat-safe bowl on top of the pot. Add the honey to the bowl and stir it constantly as it melts. Be sure to keep the heat low to avoid burning the honey. You’ll know the honey is ready when it forms a thick syrup.
Step 3: Spread the Honey
Spread the melted honey onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Make sure to spread it evenly and don’t make it too thick. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator and let the honey cool and harden for at least 2 hours.
Step 4: Crush the Honey
Take the honey out of the refrigerator and break it into small pieces. You can use a spoon, a rolling pin, or even your hands to break it into pieces. If the pieces are too large, place them in a food processor and pulse them until they are the desired size.
Step 5: Store the Honey
Place your honey in an airtight container and store it in a cool, dry place. Granulated honey can last up to a year if stored properly. Enjoy your homemade granulated honey!
